About Eastwood and ScotSAC
We are a branch of the Scottish Sub-Aqua Club located on the South Side of Glasgow in the UK.
The Scottish Sub-Aqua Club (SSAC) was founded in 1953 in Glasgow. By the end of the 1960’s it had grown to 10 branches and has enlarged steadily thereafter. There are now more than 70 branches with some 2000 members in total. Branches are found in many towns in Scotland and a small number in the north of England.
The SSAC is recognised by the Scottish Sports Council as the national governing body for the sport in Scotland. SSAC’s main aim is to encourage safe and enjoyable diving for all divers resident in Scotland, and visitors diving in Scottish waters.
SSAC is governed by an annually elected general committee, and its major sub-committee is the National Diving Council, Chaired at present by
SSAC was the first diving club in Europe to adopt the use of Nitrox, and the first to produce a training plan for its use. They were also the first club in Europe to produce a training plan, with appropriate awards, for disabled divers. They have an impressive safety record, which we guard jealously, maintained by extensive training and backed by incident analysis, which has been running since the 1970’s.
SSAC also publishes a bi-monthly magazine Scottish Diver, training schedules, logbooks, and a regular newsletter for members, training manuals and other items.
The club also provides a library of some 700 books on diving and related subjects. This library is at club HQ. Non-members may consult books at the club HQ. Members may borrow books and videos. Admiralty Charts are also available at club HQ.
Eastwood Sub-Aqua Club has been running since the late 70’s. At present we have around 45 members and we dive nearly every weekend and very often on nights through the week (good weather and bad).
Our branch has a 5.8-meter RHIB (Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat) with a powerful130-horse power engine. This allows us to dive sites that cannot be easily reached from the shore. We also organise hard boat dives, which sail from various locations around the country.
Eastwood is a non-profit making club, run by the members for the members and as such your training is free, this does not however affect or lower the standard and quality of training you will receive. Fully qualified instructors carry out all the training.
