Sports Diver Award
There are many organisations around the world who train recreational divers and for the most part the training content is very similar. This is often deliberate as the amount of dive tourism that exists today you may well be diving in a group which has a variety of certifications from these organisations. Therefore it would be hazardous to dive where very different operating procedure or signals were used.
Where many of the training organisations do differ is the way they divide the training content up into certification levels. ScotSAC entry diving qualification is the ‘Sport Diver’ it takes the trainee diver from basic swimming skills assessment right through to diver rescue and resuscitation techniques. PADI (professional association of dive instructors) is a well known commercial recreational diver training organisation. To receive the equivalent training content as the ScotSAC sport diver you would have to progress through PADI’s Open water, Advanced Open Water and Rescue Diver training. Other organisations may differ again from this. This is not to say ScotSAC is better than anyone else just different, but it is important to note although ScotSAC Sport Diver can take several months to complete the entry qualification will give you a comprehensive set of skill and knowledge to begin your diving.
Many members come to EastWood SAC having a completed a diver training course with other organisations, at the discretion of the Branch Diving Officer skills developed elsewhere can be ‘crossed over’ to the sport diver qualification eliminating the need to recover familiar ground.
