Farne Islands - May 2006
May bank holiday weekend…. and Gordon has organised a trip to the Farne Islands!
It was a good trip - accommodation was fab, boat was great, diving was tip-top too! The pub was nice and friendly (and had imported rum from Trinidad! Yum!) and the food was not bad there too! All with Soverign Diving Services.
Nobody volunteered to write a trip report this time….. So ill do a wee short one with lots of photos!
Now…. this was possibly the most eventful trip i have ever been on! Here goes the list (in no particular order!):
- Gordon had terrible trouble with getting the trip filled due to people backing out 2 weeks beforehand.
- Then Gordons sinuses were all blocked and he only got one or two dives.
- Marions neck and cuff seal died.
- Deirdra’s cuff seal died.
- Stewarts suit got put on to the wrong boat (but we got it back just outside the harbour!)
- Helens torch flooded.
- Grahams computer died.
- John locked his keyes in his boot…… and marion had to come back to Glasgow to get the spare car keys!
- My computer (as of the second i got in to the water for the first dive) has started to show the ‘low battery warning’!
- Campbell got an empty cylinder back from the filling station…. twice!
- Pat was very (self induced) ill on the Monday.
Think thats everything that went wrong….
All was not lost however! The diving was great! We dived the Somali, Seal/scenic dive (Longstones), Chris Christainson, another scenic (Hopper) and then two others on the Monday - The Pinnacles i think (but i was back at work by then!)
And we saw seals! (Although the skipper said the best time of year for seals is July/August as they are more used to divers by then and come closer to you). No photos of seals underwater though! They went by like enormous fat bullets! Fantastic!
Octopus/Lobsters/Nudibranchs/Cod/Wrasse - we saw lots and lots!
So here’s some photos to enjoy! Click on them to enarge the photos once the page has fully loaded.
Thanks to John, Campbell and Myself for the Photos!
And a very large thankyou to Gordon for organising the trip!

Took a while but I have seen them all. they are great photos. Sounds like it was a great trip, despite all the mashaps. Glad you all had a great time.
